Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNA MARY FORD (nee MILES) On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, with her children by her side, Lorna Mary Ford passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease, at West Park Manor, in Winnipeg. Mom leaves to mourn her loving children Michael (Maria Mathews), Steve (Audri Wilkinson), Joanne (Patrick Logan), Tony (Jennifer Flachbart), and Anne-Marie Ford (Jeff Thiessen); grandchildren Bryan, Paul, and Michelle Ford (Boroditsky); Stephanie, Nikki and Lauren Ford; Elizabeth, Catherine and Alexandra Logan; Aundra, Jillian and Samantha Ford; and Jay, Shane, Dylan and Kyra Thiessen; and great-grandchild Pearl Boroditsky. Mom was predeceased by her husband Al, her parents Warner and Elizabeth Miles; her brothers Warren, Ronald and Ellard Miles; her parents-in-law Art and Jesse Ford and sisters-in-law Joyce Lapointe, Bernice Miles and Frances Miles. Mom was born in Ottawa on August 3, 1929, and graduated from Connaught High School at the age of 16. She worked as a secretary before she met her lifelong dance partner in Al. They married on September 1, 1951, at St. Mary's Church in Ottawa and her life as a military wife began. Mom and Dad lived all over the world and Mom made us a home wherever they were posted. She had an amazing spirit of adventure as she moved 28 times in 56 years of marriage. Mom was the quintessential mother - her children were her greatest joy in life. She was a woman of incredible strength and patience as she regularly shouldered the parenting duties for five children on her own while Al was away on peacekeeping duties. Mom was our greatest fan whether cheering us on in our various sports activities or praising us for a good grade. Mom was a woman of incredible faith and instilled in us the importance of religion in our lives; Mom was a very loving mother, grandmother and, recently, great-grandmother. She took pride in her family; she enjoyed the excitement of buying Christmas gifts, writing cards and letters to family and friends, and family dinners with photos were a must! She was an avid bowler, an extraordinary bridge player, and amazing dancer and she could laugh at herself. She and Dad supported a foster child in the Philippines and saw him graduate from teachers' college. Later in life, Mom volunteered for Meals on Wheels and often visited her clients on her own time. Dad enabled her to live at home with her Alzheimer's disease until two years ago when she entered West Park Manor. Our family is truly grateful for the exceptional care Mom received from the nurses and staff. Prayers will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Chapel, 2235 Silver Avenue at Whytewold Road, on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at l:00 p.m., with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H. and Rev. Fr. Lance Magdziak officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Lorna's memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba.
